Small Group Bible Studies0080

We supply food to local food banks, provide presents to overseas children at Christmas time, and donate hats and mittens to those in need during the winter.
We give money for basic aid to underdeveloped countries, disaster relief, and hunger relief. We also participate in building Habitat for Humanity houses.

Time – sometimes the best way to give is just offering a helping hand at activities.
bullet Talents – maybe God is calling you to use that special ability He gave you for His work. It could be singing, playing an instrument, architect work, landscaping, web design, sound technician work…the possibilities are limited only by human creativity.
Resources – who knew that your house in the Poconos could be used for a church retreat or your boat used for a special Christian learning event? Again, the possibilities of God using the resources He has given you is only limited by human creativity.

Just for Women
Our Women’s Guild holds special activities for women to learn from Jesus, serve God, and fellowship together including small group gatherings, Rummage sales, Funeral lunches, fellowship hours, and Pot Luck dinners.

Our Roots

Reformed from Roman Catholicism of the 16th century, our Protestant church follows the theology of John Calvin, who along with Martin Luther and others led the Reformation in the 1500’s.  There are 5 core beliefs that came out of the Reformation.  They are:

0093Scripture Alone (Sola Scriptura) – God’s People use His Word (the Holy Bible) as the standard by which to understand who God is and what His will is for our lives.

Christ Alone (Solo Christo) – Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection from the dead is what saves us.  He bore the wrath of God for our sin and conquered death by His resurrection, thus freeing us to be with God.

Grace Alone (Sola Gratia) – Salvation is a gift of God through faith.  Our good deeds, our prayers, our piety, etc. cannot save us from eternal damnation.  Only God saves us through believing in Christ’s death and resurrection.

Faith Alone (Sola Fide) – We are made right with God by faith alone.  Nothing else makes us right with God except our God-given faith.

Glory of God Alone (Soli Deo Gloria) – We live for the glory of God and nothing else.  We do not live for ourselves or anyone or anything else.  We live solely for the glory of God.

Our Denomination

Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church.

We belong to the Reformed Church in America.  It is a Protestant denomination very similar to the Presbyterian Church in theology and practice.  Whereas the Presbyterians originated from Scotland, our denomination originated from the Netherlands.

The Reformed Church in America governs formally by local groupings of churches called Classes.  We belong to the Delaware-Raritan Classis.  Voting members of the Classis are made up of the Ministers and Elder Delegates of its churches.

Our congregation is overseen by a governing board called the consistory.  The consistory is made up of ordained leaders called Elders and Deacons.  Elders tend to the spiritual needs of the church while Deacons tend to the physical needs of the church and its community.  The governing board and its Minister of Word and Sacrament are amenable to the Delaware-Raritan Classis.

The Reformed Church in America administrates loosely by areas called Regional Synods.  These Regional Synods serve several Classes.  We are in the Regional Synod of the Mid-Atlantics.
